A while back, I read a book by Tim Templeton called The Referral of a Lifetime. The book is basically a story about how referrals are your best resource in any kind of business you run, or venture you take on, and it gave some ideas on keeping in touch. One of the ideas in the book was a regimented Keep In Touch program. After reading the book, I scoured teh internetz for a ready-made Keep In Touch program, and didn’t find one.
So I did what any resourceful internet-age efficiency whore would do: I made my own.
E-mail Blast
If you’re doing your subscription/contact list right, it’s completely opt-in and easy to unsubscribe, as well as segmented. You’re not “blasting” an e-mail to a bunch of people who don’t care about your stuff. You’re sending relevant, useful emails to the specific segments of your list who need them.
Viral
When you are producing a game, video, or other thing that you hope will become “viral” eventually, it’s still too early to call it “viral.” By its very definition, something viral has already spread.
Web 2.0
Yeah, I get that you think this idea is still pretty cutting edge, or maybe you’re not quite sure what it means yet, but it’s played out now. It used to refer to a brand new way of thinking about interacting on the web, but it’s not a brand new way anymore, and everyone’s doing it. So skip calling it “Web 2.0.” No one will be impressed.

A slightly panicked coworker told me once, “I’m not a writer!” He was working on an article for our company newsletter and was a little worried, I think. Maybe you’ve been in the same situation, too. If you’re a designer or a project manager in a position where writing isn’t front and center, having to write an article or contribute to a white paper can be scary!
So, first, a little pep-talk: Everyone is a writer! Yes, even you. Think about it. Do you write emails? Letters? A journal? Notes to yourself? Chances are, you write at least one of those things, and you pretty much can’t get away with not writing if you are in the corporate world. So, yes, you are a writer.
If you’re feeling a little nervous about your writing chops, though, let me give you a few tips:
