Star of the Week’ Spotlight: Alex Watson

Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”

This week, our Star is optimization engineer, Alex Watson. His client work this week has been quick and on target. Congratulations Alex!

“I’ve noticed Alex pull extra hours to get things done while working on multiple projects and while others were out of the office.  He’s even taken on new tasks– gaining experience on the marketing level here at Brooks Bell!  He is kind, positive and always greets you with a smile, which is encouraging… especially when co-workers like me ask an endless amount of questions.” – Sally Smith, Client Coordinator and last week’s Star.

Where are you from and how did you end up in Raleigh at Brooks Bell?

I grew up and went to high school in Apex, NC. After a lot of time living in that small town environment and going to college in Greenville (which is bigger but still somewhat small), I wanted to check out what the big city life had to offer. So, as soon as I graduated from East Carolina, I started looking for jobs in the downtown Raleigh area and that’s how I found Brooks Bell.

Which of Brooks Bell’s core values resonates with you most and why?

Create Happiness. Not to get too philosophical on you, but I think that the pursuit of happiness is a large part of the struggle of life. To help someone else be happy, if I can, is very rewarding to me personally.

What led you to have a passion for web development?

I guess it’s my mindset about the web development process. I think of web development as a combination of Legos and a puzzle. I have a lot of fun, not only building a website from a design or concept, but solving the hurdles that are often encountered along the way in the build process.

Can you provide any pointers to make Nerf guns shoot further?

It’s all about the arc. It just takes some calculation and a good sense of the wind direction and you can easily shoot across the whole office.

What would you test? (Other than client testing, of course.)

Food. Someone somewhere is probably already doing this, but if you did A/B testing on food you could end up with the most awesome restaurant ever. Hey, why not test the restaurant’s beer too while you’re at it?

The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.

The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
