Star of the Week’ Spotlight: Carissa Nickel

Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”

This week, our Star is executive assistant, Carissa Nickel. Carissa is always organizing team events, and does a great job getting everyone involved. Congratulations Carissa!

Where are you from and how did you end up in Raleigh at Brooks Bell?

I am from Buffalo & Rochester, New York originally. When I was 25 I decided I needed a change of scenery. I had always wanted to live in North Carolina. If I didn’t move then I felt I ran the risk of settling down, having a family, and would never achieve my goal of moving down south. So, I trained a replacement at my old job and moved. After working in NC for 18 months, my friend mentioned there was an open position at Brooks Bell and I jumped on it. I submitted my resume, came in for an interview, and the rest is history.

Which of Brooks Bell’s core values resonates with you most and why?

Create happiness. Over the years I have realized that happiness is a very important part of life, but is also something that people need to be proactive in achieving. One can’t just sit around and wait for it to be handed to them. I find that when I have a positive attitude, it creates happiness not only for me, but for them too. Being happy affects those around me in a very positive way. I love seeing people smile and laugh, and hopefully I brighten everybody’s day.

Can you provide any pointers to make Nerf guns shoot further?

I have found that in order to shoot my Nerf gun further I have to rest it on my desk before shooting it. This tactic also helps with accuracy. Beyond that I do not have any other tips. I still have a lot to learn. Some of my co-workers have found that throwing the darts (without the Nerf gun) gets the job done.

Favorite song to whistle while you work?

I have two: Cruise by Florida Georgia Line and Cat’s in the Cradle by Harry Chapin.  They are two of my favorite songs and both are very special to me.

The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.

The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
