Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”
This week, our Star is optimization engineer, Chad Pry. Chad creates happiness in our office by cooking breakfast for everyone on Fridays. He’s a great member of the team, and a great developer. Congrats Chad!
“Chad is an awesome team member that embodies the spirit of our core values, aside from being a great developer. Most notably to our team, he is a happiness creator by cooking at least once a week for 30 people—and it’s always delicious!” – Molly Bruckman, Support Analyst, and previous Star of the Week.
Where are you from, and how did you end up in Raleigh at Brooks Bell?
I’ve lived in 6 states, 7 if you include Ontario (haha Canada—Maple syrup, beer, hockey), but the majority of my life has been spent in beautiful Asheville, NC. I graduated from high school in Goldsboro NC, attended North Carolina State University my freshman year of college, and finished up in Asheville. After running my own freelance business for 10+ years I decided to recognize my strengths and weaknesses and look for a job with a larger company.
What led you to have a passion for web development?
In the mid 90’s I started building web pages for my favorite bands, my friends’ bands, and eventually my bands. So, my initial introduction to web development was almost purely out of necessity. Shortly thereafter I started programming Actionscript, at which point I was hooked.
If you had the Brooks Bell team over for dinner, what would you make for all of us??
Favorite work/life quote or slogan??
“Work smarter, not harder.” You should already be working hard of course!
What do you do outside of work? Any hobbies?
I have two kids, which is my most important hobby, but I also like to play in rock bands. http://onthetake.bandcamp.com?
What are you reading?
NueroBranding by Peter Stedil (with our Brooks Bell Book Club!)
Can you provide any pointers to make Nerf guns shoot further/faster/more accurately?
Nope. I make a great target!
The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.
The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
