Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”
This week, our Star is client manager, Claire Schmitt. Claire recently put together an awesome presentation and deserves recognition for her hard work. The presentation was successful, and Claire went above and beyond for the team. Congrats Claire!
Where are you from and how did you end up in Raleigh at Brooks Bell?
I grew up in New Jersey, about 15 miles outside of New York City. I went to college in the city and spent time living in Princeton and NYC. Two years ago, my husband got a post-doc position at Duke so we moved to Durham. I was pretty excited to leave behind crowded sidewalks and snow. I had previously worked at Conde Nast, and while there, we worked with Brooks Bell. The work Brooks Bell did was outstanding and the team was awesome. It was a place I knew I would love working. I’m lucky to have moved to the same area.
Which of Brooks Bell’s core values resonates with you most and why?
Create Happiness. What I’ve come to realize is that time really does fly by and creating happiness for yourself and others is truly essential because it is reflected in everything you do. It is evident in the quality of your work, your relationships with others and how you treat yourself. It is important to make creating and maintaining happiness a priority. I’m really fortunate to have a wonderful supportive family, a job I look forward to everyday and a group of friends and co-workers who inspire and challenge me.
What would you test? (Other than client testing, of course)
One of the best things about living in North Carolina is the BBQ. I’d definitely test Eastern vs. Lexington BBQ. Well… actually, I pretty much test this every other week. I’m now 10 lbs heavier and still without a clear winner. Sometimes, you just have to retest.
What’s the #1 most played song you listen to?
It would probably be Talking Heads’ This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody). I love David Byrne and its one of the only songs I can sing without my voice cracking.
If you were to have the Brooks Bell Team over for dinner, what would you make for all of us?
I would make my all-time favorite – Beef Wellington. You seriously can’t go wrong with tenderloin dipped in cognac, smothered in fois gras paté and wrapped in puff pastry.
The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.
The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
