Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”
What is the key to good analytical reporting?
One thing I’ve learned from my colleagues here is the importance of telling a story about the numbers. The numbers are rarely the only story, but they always help inform and give validity to the larger picture of why your test (hopefully) won. To use a writing analogy, numbers are great supporting facts, but the deeper insights of a test are the main idea. The team here practices this daily, and it’s made me and our whole team better.
What should companies look for when hiring an analyst?
At Click Summit this spring, I attended a session where a VP suggested that once you get an analyst that can tell the story as well as he/she can get the facts, then you never let that analyst go. I humbly agree! Analysts are sometimes hired because of their on-paper skills, but a great optimization analyst will present data to clients and larger teams daily. Whenever possible, look for an analyst with presentation skills combined with data skills.
Favorite spot in the Raleigh area to spend time and hang out? Or best part about living here?
Around Raleigh, we are so lucky to have developed a culture of food, drink and fun over the past ten years. When I first moved here, we struggled to find local brewing companies and innovative local dining. I know we are very lucky to have great places for lunch, after work drinks and dinners within a short walk of the office-ranging from the summer Farmer’s Market to the old school burger places to fine dining. Like many at the office, I find myself at Trophy Brewing company almost weekly. Trophy always shows off their great small-batch beer that changes almost daily and fresh pizzas with local ingredients that make for a good end to the day!
The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.
The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
Sound like fun? Check to see if we’re hiring.
