Star of the Week’ Spotlight: Jeremy Andrews

Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”

This week, our Star is optimization engineer, Jeremy Andrews who is always there to answer questions and provide support.

Jeremy seems to work non-stop on development projects, which is noteworthy on its own. But I picked him as Star of the Week because he is always answering development questions, lending a hand, and giving advice to just about everyone at Brooks Bell, on every project—whether he has been assigned to the task or not. Plus, he has a bottomless reserve of fantasy football knowledge, which I both respect and fear as the season approaches.” – David DeFranza, Content Strategist and previous Star of the Week.

Where are you from and how did you end up in Raleigh at Brooks Bell?

I’m a Raleigh native. I was born and raised here, but moved west to attend UNC-Greensboro. I made my way back to Raleigh after college and worked for the State Department of Transportation for a few years. About two and a half years ago, I heard Brooks Bell was looking to hire another web developer and thought that A/B testing sounded like a great opportunity to marry my love of computers with my passion for sociology and psychology. Joining the insanely brilliant Brooks Bell crew has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Favorite song to whistle while you work?

I don’t know about whistling, but I’ve been known to belt out the “da da da” part of The Proclaimers’ “I Would Walk 500 Miles” in the middle of a quiet office more than once.

Can you provide any pointers to make Nerf guns shoot further?

Bypass the gun altogether. My fellow dart-flingers would agree that you can chuck a whistler dart a lot farther (and with a lot more accuracy) than you can shoot it. There’s also something to be said for the sense of accomplishment you feel when you nail an unsuspecting coworker from across the room with a well-thrown dart.

Which of Brooks Bell’s core values resonates with you most and why?

For me, it’s probably “Create Happiness,” and my coworkers are a huge part of that. It’s easy to get caught up in the stresses of any job, but finding time to cut loose and relax a little can really help free your mind and make you significantly more productive once you return to tackle a problem. Whether it’s taking a few minutes for a game of ping pong or sitting outside on the balcony and enjoying a cold beer, I can honestly say that Brooks Bell has the most amazing culture of any place I have ever worked and fully embraces the general well-being of its employees. I truly believe this is a huge part of the company’s overall success and why it is able to attract so many hard-working people.

The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.

The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
