Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”
This week, our Star is director of user experience, Matt Berglund. Matt has recently been improving UX initiatives and knowledge around the office. Congrats Matt!
“Matt has spearheaded some really exciting UX initiatives recently. Seeing him conceptualize ideas and bring them to a beta stage has been awesome to watch. In addition to being courageous and pursuing knowledge, I always enjoy chatting with Matt about his family and what’s going on in our lives.” – Clair Ashburn, Business Development Manager, and previous Star of the Week.
Where are you from and how did you end up in Raleigh at Brooks Bell?
I spent the first 12 years of my life in a town outside of Boston, where I cultivated my love for Boston sports. I spent the next 22 years of my life in Northern Virginia getting an education, getting married, starting a career, having children, and sitting in traffic. I moved to the Raleigh area in 2008 with my wife and kids and never looked back.
Which of Brooks Bell’s core values resonates with you most and why?
Be Real – I believe people are at their best when they are transparent and authentic. We have all been uniquely created and the power of “team” comes from each of us as individuals, contributing from our strengths and abilities.
What led you to have a passion for design and UX?
My love for playing music inspired me to study art and design in college. My theory was that my creative capacity would increase, ultimately leading to me writing a hit single. The internet was just being born, and I began an internship with small web design company, designing sites for lots of great companies in the Washington DC area. The more sites I designed, the more fascinating it became. I’m still thinking about that hit single.
What would you test? (Other than client testing, of course)
I’d like to A/B test politicians running for office.
What do you do outside of work? Any hobbies?
I spend as much time as possible creating awesome memories with my wife and 4 kids. Much time is also spent sharing life with good friends and neighbors.
The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.
The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
