Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”
This week, our Star is director of business development, Matt Haverkamp. Matt has been moving and shaking ever since he joined Brooks Bell in August 2013. We’re looking forward to his new perspectives and all that he brings to the table. Congrats Matt!
Where are you from and how did you end up in Raleigh at Brooks Bell?
I’m originally from Eastern N.C., but recently moved back from D.C. to be closer to family and eat more BBQ. The first person I reached out to when I got into town was Brooks Bell’s very own Gregory Ng. Greg and I knew each other from the blogging world. We started a conversation about Business Development and what I was doing currently, and the conversation turned into something I just could not turn down. After my first meeting with the Brooks Bell team, I knew this was the place for me. I consider myself beyond lucky and privileged to be with such smart, talented and fun people.
Which of Brooks Bell’s core values resonates with you most and why?
Definitely “Be Real.” I actually don’t know how to be anything other than myself. Besides, life is too short to not be real.
What would you test? (Other than client testing, of course)
Oh, it would have to be IPAs all the way. Sierra Nevada IPA would be my control. Others have their work cut out.
What’s the #1 most played song you listen to?
I’m gonna break this up into two: All-time would probably have to be People Are People by Depeche Mode (my wife continues to make fun of me on this one, but I don’t care), but if you look at the past three months, it would Bruno Mars’ Locked Out Of Heaven mainly because my 2-year-old likes the “Oh yeah, oh yeah” part.
Do you have any hidden talents?
After 10 years living in D.C. I have become an expert parallel parker. There is no space too small or car too big. All I have to say is bring it!
The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.
The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
Sound like fun? Check to see if we’re hiring.
