Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”
This week our Star is optimization engineer Alex Watson. As an awesome member of our dev team, Alex does a lot of work behind the scenes. His get-it-done attitude and ability to learn quickly make him great to work with, but don’t let him sit at your poker table if you plan on keeping some of your chips! Congratulations Alex!
One of our company initiatives, and one of our core values, is to continue improving upon current skills and knowledge. What skills are you learning or brushing up on?
I’ve been teaching myself lots of different types of math. I became really interested in math, after being forced to take lots of math courses in college. I’m also trying to learn about version control tools and other coding productivity solutions that can help make our company more efficient.
What do you like to do outside of work? Any hobbies?
Outside of work, I love to go to the gym and be healthy. I’ve been training to run 5K’s and bench press competitively and I love the challenges that come with training for both at the same time.
Favorite spot in the Raleigh area to spend time and hang out?
I like to be in calm environments, where I can grab a beer or some appetizers and enjoy nice views. So far, the best place in Raleigh I’ve found that fits the bill is Raleigh Times, because it’s open all day until late at night and has a nice outdoor rooftop balcony.
The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.
The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
Sound like fun? Check to see if we’re hiring.
