Each week at Brooks Bell, we have a short meeting Friday morning with the entire team. During the meeting we get updates on tests and the company, and award a “Star of the Week.”
This week, our Star is project manager, Jim Schlegelmilch. Jim is our go-to resource for project status updates and is an always positive, awesome members of our team. Congratulations Jim!
What is a problem or challenge you faced and overcame in the past weeks?
We had a test that needed to go out ASAP but also needed a few code tweaks. Because of the tight timeline, I, with some help from our analyst, Dave, dug into it a bit and made updates to the code. It was great to be able to step up and do something outside of the typical PM role.
Do you have any advice for those new to the field of project management?
Be flexible, stay organized and don’t be afraid to roll up your sleeves and jump into something you may not normally do day-to-day. Projects are going to change, priorities will shift, and anything you can do to help will go a long way.
Favorite work/life slogan or quote?
One that’s been sticking with me lately is “We only get to do this once, and it’s not for a long time, so enjoy it.” It’s easy to get caught up in the madness of it all, and everything is so fast-paced now that it’s important to remember to take a step back, take a deep breath, an just appreciate everything.
The Brooks Bell Star of the Week is a team member who has gone above and beyond typical expectations during the week. The award is designed to empower our team and ensure everyone’s hard work is appreciated and recognized.
The winner receives a large trophy they get to keep for the entire week, fully equipped with extra Nerf darts (extra protection for those impromptu Nerf wars). They also get the honor of selecting the following week’s winner.
Sound like fun? Check to see if we’re hiring.
